Beat the Heat: A Daily Reminder to Stay Cool, Hydrated and Ready to Play

Summer is for sprinting, splashing and making new friends, but hot days need a smart game plan. At West Midlands Sports Development we love the sunshine, and we want every camper to feel their best from first whistle to final water game.

Whether you are joining us for the Summer Holiday Camp or playing out in the garden, use this as your daily heat check.

Your Daily Heat Weather Reminder

Before you head out, pause for 30 seconds:

  • Check the forecast: If temperatures are rising above 26C, plan for more shade breaks and lighter activity in the peak sun.
  • Dress for it: Light coloured, breathable kit, a cap and sun cream applied before you leave home.
  • Pack the essentials: Refillable water bottle, small towel and a healthy snack. If your bottle is empty, play stops until it is refilled.

We build these checks into every day at camp so kids learn to look after themselves while they have fun.

5 Simple Hydration Tips That Actually Work

  1. Start early: Drink a glass of water with breakfast. Do not wait until you feel thirsty.
  2. Sip often: Little and often beats one big drink. Aim for a few sips every 15 to 20 minutes during activity.
  3. Make water exciting: Add slices of orange, cucumber or berries to keep kids reaching for their bottle.
  4. Eat your water: Watermelon, cucumber, strawberries and oranges all top up fluids and give you energy.
  5. Know the signs: Headache, tiredness or darker wee are early signals to stop, shade and sip.

At our camp we add extra water stations, shaded rest zones and water games that keep everyone cool without cutting the fun.
