Basketball

Basketball was invented as there was a need for a gymnasium activity as an alternative to freestanding exercise during the winter months.

Canadian Dr. James Naismith  staff member of Springfield College, Massachusetts wanted to make his classes more appealing,so tried introduced various recreational games, such as Association Football, American Football and Lacrosse.  However as the gym had limited space this became difficult so decided to combine the activities of the various sports to create a new game.

Gymnastics

Getting involved in gymnastics couldn’t be easier. You don’t need any special equipment, just your body and a desire to learn. Gymnastics isn’t just one sport. It’s a whole range of different activities that are knows as ” disciplines”. Gymnastics has been around for over 2000 years but as an competitive sport it is still relatively new.

Handball

Handball has been called football with hands. It is a continuous play sport involving the fitness basics of running, throwing, catching and jumping. It has been suggested that the game is one of the oldest in the world as elements of the sport are found through out history in many civilisations.

Tag Rugby

Whilst a great game parents are often concerned about the possibility of their child sustaining injury when playing Rugby. However this milder version of the sport allows both girls and boys to feel the exhilaration of the sport without fear, as tackles are replaced by ‘touches’ or ‘tags’. Players only need to tag their opponents to indicate that they have been ‘tackled.
