Anthony Maguire

I have always had a passion for sport.   I was involved in competitive sport since my primary years and was involved in all the school teams;  football, volleyball, cricket as well as  badminton. From the age of 10 I was representing Wolves FC  and playing badminton at county level...

In high school I participated in handball traveling to Germany to compete against teams across Europe. At this time I was playing football at county level and representing Stoke City FC .
Focusing  on Football I moved away from home after leaving school to fulfill a  dream of playing Sport full time with a professional contract at Torquay United FC.
As part of the PFA apprenticeship scheme I completed my Level 2 Football Coaching Badge. This was to give me the bug for what I do now. I learnt a lot of things from my time at Torquay United Teamwork, Communication and a Positive Attitude. Things that I try to pass on to the young people I teach now.

After leaving Torquay I  returned back to my home town to combine my passion for both coaching and playing by signing for local club Hednesford Town. I was managing the u15’s Team as well as playing for the first team.

Personal growth has always been important so I had continued  ( as I do to this day) to do extra qualifications completing up to level 3.

My biggest achievement on the pitch came when the club reached the FA Trophy Final I scored in the two legs of the semi-final and scored the first goal in the final which was held that year at Villa Park being named Carlsberg man of the match.

I established West Midlands Sports Development as I realised that there was a need for more sports to be taught and schools wanted more than just football.  With the introduction of PPA Time in schools it was clear to there was a requirement for the delivery of a  wide range of sport ( PE National Curriculum). My goal has always been to  provide a great service with a highly personal touch.

As sports coaches we align ourselves with the school and endeavour to build consistency  with both the pupils and staff.
